The Cannabis Laws

Written by: Danae Boggess

So let’s clear up a few things. One of the main questions i get asked is, “Can I smoke on the street?”. The laws declares that you are not allowed to consume cannabis in public. So if you’re walking down the street smoking a blunt, and a cop stops you, you’re potentially looking at a misdemeanor. Other questions i get often are, “What’s the most i can carry?”, “Can I grow my own plants?”, “Can I fly with herb?”. Read on stoner, and you shall find the answers you seek.

When it comes to the amount of pot you can get, if you are a recreational, user you can carry up to an ounce (28g) of dry flower. Recreational users can also carry up to 8 grams of concentrated cannabis. For medicinal patient, you can carry up 8 ounce (224g) of dry flower. If you get caught with more than the amount described, you’re potentially looking at an intent to sell charge. You face up to 6 months in jail and a $500 fine. That is not a case you want on your record. Even though in reality, weed isn’t as bad as the government and media tries to make it seem, you still should follow the laws of cannabis consumption to avoid a petty case.

As far as growing your own plants goes, you’re allowed to grow up to 6 plants. It has to be grown indoors and should be in a place where only you can access it. Unfortunately you aren’t allowed to grow outdoors. You can only grow 6 plants a time, it doesn’t matter what stage of growing your plant is in. Just because you grow, it doesn’t mean that you are allowed to carry more than 28 grams (if you’re a recreational user). If you grow weed, I recommend buying a scale, that way you can weigh out exactly how much weed you’re bringing with you.

It can be a bit tricky flying with cannabis. Some airports let you fly out with up to an ounce of dry cannabis. One thing to keep in mind though is once the plane is in the air, you’re in federal space. So if you just so happen to be eating edibles on the plane, and there’s an air marshal that has the nose of a bloodhound dog that bust you, you’re basically screwed. My suggestion would be to try to limit the amount of cannabis you take with you on a plane. The less you have, the less harsh the punishment would be.

How To ENJOY Your Edible High

Written by: Danae Boggess

There is HUGE misconception when it comes to edibles. A lot of consumers think because they smoke a lot, their edible tolerance will be high. That is far from the case. The way we get high from edibles are more complicated than from we smoke. When we smoke, the THC is only going into our lungs. Versus eating THC ,its getting digested by our liver. When we eat food, the nutrition effects our entire body. So when we take edibles in a sense, the THC is getting into every crevice of our body.

I know it’s kind of difficult to dose yourself when it comes to taking edibles. When you smoke, you know when to stop because you feel high almost instantaneously. When it comes to edibles we tend to pop a bunch, wait about 90 minutes to realize, we’ve over done it. I personally have gotten way to high from not dosing myself right with edibles. In order to enjoy your edible high, you have to learn how to dose yourself correctly

If you have never consumed THC before, i always say start off small and go from there. Start off with a 5mg edible, or if you cant find a 5mg edible that you like, take half of a 10mg edible. Wait about 2 hours and if you don’t feel anything yet, take another 5mg edible. You never want to eat a bunch of them at once. You’re going to end up not enjoying your high at all and want to steer clear of in taking any THC. If you end up forgetting that you’re eating an edible and end up eating to much, you can take some CBD. The CBD will counteract the high of the THC and bring the level of your high down.

There a lot of different edibles options out there for you. You can get anything from gummies, to chocolates, to drinks!! When you are going to eat edibles, try to surround yourself with people you’re comfortable with. That way in the event you do get an uncomfortable high, you would be able to relax a bit more. Just remember to take your edibles in small doses and you’ll enjoy your high. Next time you visit SOCC make sure to ask your budtender about all the different edible options.

“Why Does Weed Get Us High, Man?”

Written by: Danae Boggess

A question most of us stoners think (but also forget to research) is why we get high when we ingest THC. Well my follow potheads, the answer is a bit more complex than you would think. There is a system we have, that we aren’t taught about in our high school biology class. It’s called the endocannabinoid system.

The endocanabinoid system (ECS) is made of endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters that cling to cannabinoid receptors. The ECS has three important components: receptors, endocannabinoids, and enzymes. A certain receptor in the ECS is actually connected to the nervous system. Our endocannabinoid system plays a key roll, in: memory, sleep, mood, appetite and that’s just to name a few. So I think its safe to say the we might wanna take care of that system.

Now, this is where the pot comes in, THC is short for tetrahydrocannabinol. In case you’re to stoned to have realized this by now, both endocannabinoid and tetrahydrocannabinol both have cannabin in the names. THC has been found to have over 113 different cannabinoids. When we intake THC our ECS somewhat reaches it’s full functioning potential. In simpler terms THC is the key to unlock a healthier endocannabinoid system.

There are a multitude of health benefits that cannabinoids can bring. Studies show that cannabinoids help:

  • Reduce anxiety
  • Relax tight muscles in people with multiple sclerosis
  • Control nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy
  • Kill cancer cells and slow tumor growth
  • Stimulate appetite and improve weight gain in people with cancer and AIDS.
  • Reduce inflammation and relieve pain

If you are on prescription medication and suffer from side effects I would highly recommend trying cannabis. If you have already and don’t like the head change, you can always try CBD. CBD stands for cannabidiol , which is a compound found in cannabis. CBD is the non- psychoactive part of cannbis, so you will feel relief with out that “high” feeling Curious about CBD products and how to take them? Come into SOCC or your local licensed marijuana dispensary, (if you arent anywhere near us), and ask your budtender for more information.
